I am too. My grandfather was William J. Peters. I have met or been in touch with several other descendants (from families of Ziegler, Fiala, Seitz, Vaughan, and Vedoe), but I would like to find as many descendants as possible. Please let us hear from you!

Peter Capelotti’s book, The Greatest Show in the Arctic: The American Exploration of Franz Josef Land, 1898–1905, was released in May 2016. The contents include accounts of three expeditions to Franz Josef Land:
– The Wellman Polar Expedition (1890—1899)
– The Baldwin-Ziegler Polar Expedition (1901—1902)
– The Ziegler Polar Expedition (1903—1905)

National Geographic Society just came out with a story, which includes discussion Capelotti’s book.

I feel compelled to mention that NGS further promoted the misconception that William Ziegler was “the King of Baking Soda.”  He was the King of Baking Powder (Royal Baking Powder Company). See the difference between baking soda and baking powder. If a “King” of Baking Soda exists, the fame (Arm and Hammer brand) belongs within the Minton-Church-Minton family.
